The Practitioners Role In Hyperbaric Medicine: Patient Management & Documentation Requirements

Course overview

This intense two hour course is intended for a wide audience of health care providers involved in the provision of hyperbaric medicine, including the registered nurse, certified hyperbaric registered nurse, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, registered respiratory therapist, certified hyperbaric technician, physician, physician's assistant, EMT's and paramedics. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) involves the use of 100% oxygen in a treatment chamber at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure for various therapeutic purposes. HBO is a prescribed treatment by an appropriate practitioner and is a covered service for a defined number of diagnoses/indications by most insurance payers. A practitioner is required to document the rationale for the delivery of the treatment, a detailed history and physical, patient goals described in the plan of care with appropriate utilization review follow up and risks associated with delivering the treatment. The goals of this course are to detail the role of the physician in managing patients under consideration for HBO, the assessment and screening criteria, standards, and risks.
