Course Objectives: 1. Explore the nurse¿s role in comforting, supporting and advocating for people who are at the end of their lives. 2. Learn about giving those who are dying ¿permission to die¿. 3. Identify reasons people would hang on to life long after they are ready to go. 4. Define ¿embodied permission¿. 5. Understand the difference between embodied permissions to live and to die that honor the person¿s own timing, and a diagnosis or a prognosis of having a short time to live. 6. Explore the options of the hospice or the hospital stay for end of life care. 7. Understand why and how fasting can be a blessing in a peaceful dying process. 8. Define ¿honoring¿ with regard peaceful dying and joyful living. 9. Explore the use of altars to acknowledge and honor. 10. Begin to understand your own views on the purpose of death.
