Course overview
In diabetes mellitus, type 1 (DM1), which accounts for 5¿10% of cases of diabetes mellitus, the immune system destroys insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of risk factors for DM1, including genetic predisposition and environmental factors, along with potential preventive strategies. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
