Course overview

The fourth stage of labor begins immediately after the delivery of the placenta and, though definitions vary, typically includes the first 1¿2 hours postpartum. A significant physical process occurring in the mother at this time is the beginning of uterine involution. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of providing nursing care in the fourth stage of labor. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
