This course will present a practical guide on how to use automation and informatics rules to improve efficiency and quality in the clinical laboratory. The presenter is a medical director of a core laboratory that has been able to achieve 99% auto-verification of clinical chemistry and hematology results. An emphasis throughout will be on the importance of collecting data to support or refute proposed informatics changes, and of tracking variance data to ensure quality. Clinical laboratories face a difficult challenge in handling increasing test volumes in an era of tight staffing.
