Managing Your Prejudices as a Step towards Cultural Competence: A Self-Instructional Online Course. All of us experience automatic thoughts and feeling about others based on race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, physical ability, accent, clothing, body type, etc. When you have an immediate reaction to someone, it is often because that person reminds you of someone you have known in the past, someone you have seen on TV, or someone your mother told you about. Your reaction may have nothing to do with the individual sitting in front of you. Eliminating such thoughts and feelings may be challenging, but as responsible human beings, we can learn to manage our prejudices so that they do not affect the way we treat others. This online self-instructional course contains a lively video featuring Gail Price-Wise, M.S., Harvard School of Public Health, and provocative discussion questions. Course participants will laugh, surprise themselves, and really think about prejudice in a new way.
