Course overview

Learner Objectives: As a result of having attended the meeting, the participants should have had the opportunity to: Case Studies in Wound Healing: to enhance understanding of the systematic approach to wound bed preparation; introduce a concept of comprehensive wound assessment & management using the acronym ¿O2dd Medicine¿; illustrate each element of the mnemonic with a pertinent A Novel Wound Scoring System: The grading of wounds is important in order to ascertain their seriousness and to direct their management. A logical grading system also facilitates comparative effectiveness research (CER) and the validation of meaningful clinically important improvement (MCII) for making decisions about wound management. Four wound scoring systems predominate in the wound literature. None are comprehensive enough to adequately describe a wound and make CER/MCII valid conclusions, although each has special features that should be integrated into a truly valid and reliable wound grading system. The Wound Score I propose meets this goal and is strongly recommended for the evaluation and management of all wounds as well as CER studies and MCII determinations.
