Chapter 1 - Florida Law for Nurses (2 hour) (mandatory) - This course provides nurses who are licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida updates regarding the Florida Nurse Practice Act and the approval of the Nurse Licensure Compact. In addition, it describes the Florida Board of Nursing, Florida statutes related to nursing, and the Florida Administrative Code. It also explains the relationship between Florida’s Nurse Licensure Compact and the Florida Nurse Practice Act and summarizes relevant information from Chapters 456 and 464 of the Florida statutes and rules in Title 64B9 of the Florida Administrative Code. Chapter 2 - Medical Errors in Nursing (2 hour) (mandatory) - Medical errors are a silent and largely unseen tragedy. Estimates suggest that medical errors and other instances of preventable harm at hospitals result in the death of 210,000 to 440,000 Americans each year. This course addresses preventable medical errors and provides strategies for nurses in Florida to use to prevent or reduce common errors. Chapter 3. Nursing Domestic Violence (2 hour) (mandatory every 3rd cycle) - Nurses are in a unique position to identify and help break the cycle of domestic violence. This course focuses on the cycle of violence, as well as the signs, symptoms, and intervention strategies to break the cycle of domestic violence and provide care for the victims of abuse. Chapter 4 - Disorders of the Endocrine System: Anatomy, Physiology and Current Treatment Initiatives (10 hour) - Antibiotic-resistant illnesses cost billions of dollars each year and result in thousands of unnecessary lives lost. This course focuses on the most common antibiotic-resistant infections, their identification, and recommended treatments. Chapter 5 - Vaccine-Preventable Diseases: Dealing With the Threat of Potential Disease Outbreaks (10 hour) - This course focuses on cancer prevention, early cancer detection, and nursing care of adults with cancer during and after treatment. This course is intended to help nurses provide not only cancer care, but accurate and up-to-date information as well. Chapter 6 - Caring for diseases of the cardiovascular system is part of every day nursing care. This course reviews the pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system and updates current standards and therapies. It is a vital course of contemporary best practices nursing care.
