This brief continuing education course provides an overview of the impact of mental health issues and substance abuse disorders among adult men on probation or parole. The course was developed using information from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality and presents data and findings pertaining to this population, which has grown significantly in recent years. Rates of substance use and behavioral health disorders are discussed as well as treatment options and outcomes and efforts made at the federal, state, and local level to provide resources to aid released offenders as they reenter their communities.
