Course overview
As a result of having attended the meeting, the participants should have had the opportunity to: ¿Recognize and apply new standards of practice and develop implementation strategies for transitioning from ¿actual¿ to ¿ideal¿ practice models. ¿Identify the known acute and subacute effects of HBO2 and how to apply them to hyperbaric treatment recommendations for hospitalized patients. ¿Describe mechanisms of graft compromise (surgical/traumatic edema, anastomotic failure, re-perfusion injury, irradiated recipient bed, infection, immunosuppression, etc.) and how HBO2 can mitigate loss of tissue. ¿Discuss challenging compromised grafts, issues related to their management, and individual case outcomes. ¿Recognize the spectrum of serious deep soft tissue infections and the appropriate application of HBO2 management. ¿Discuss the evidence for HBO2 in suppressing and/or eradicating infections of implanted prosthetic materials. ¿Review the ongoing UHMS effort in applying GRADE scoring to the published literature for using HBO2 in the treatment of deep diabetic foot infections and its value for assessing the evidence for its use in other indications. ¿Describe challenging infection related cases, issues related to their management, and individual case outcomes. ¿Recall hyperbaric oxygen delivery options and patient care applications. ¿Recognize how to assess and mitigate patient risk as it pertains to management in the hyperbaric chamber. ¿Develop operational effectiveness tools, team-based strategies, and implementation. ¿Summarize and apply safety prevention and certification procedures. ¿Describe the HOLLT study results ¿Discuss and understand team based strategies for introducing the methodologies of advanced hyperbaric oxygen treatment and support of the traumatized patient. ¿¿Mechanisms of HBO2 Action in the Acute and Sub-acute settings ¿Pre-conditioning Effects and Potential Clinical Applications ¿Complex Surgical Closure Techniques ¿Mechanisms of Flap and Graft Compromise ¿Compromised Graft Assessment and Their Management in Practice ¿Panel ¿ Compromised Graft Cases and Discussion of Management ¿Oxygen and Infection ¿HBO2 in Treating Deep Soft Tissue Infections ¿Evidence Based Management of Deep Diabetic Foot Infections ¿Panel ¿ HBO2 and Hospital Patient Infections ¿The High Risk Hyperbaric Patient: Selection, Stabilization and Transport ¿Intrahospital Transport Policies and Safety Checklists for Communication, Accompanying Personnel, Equipment and Interim Monitoring ¿Panel ¿ Lessons Learned from Challenging Patient Needs ¿Patient Support and Monitoring Equipment Needs and Options (IV pumps, physiologic monitoring including ET-CO2, glucose, mechanical ventilators suction, etc.) ¿Hyperbaric Equipment Modifications and Safety Certification Procedures ¿HBO2 in Acute Ischemic Disorders; Rational and Case Presentations ¿HBO2 in Crush Injuries and Compartment Syndromes with a Review of the HOLLT Study Results ¿Online video of speakers lecture with PPT slides embedded. ¿Exam questions for each lecture Evaluation is offered online after completion of the activity, which evaluates the effectiveness of the meeting, that no bias was presented and overall objectives were met.
