This 3 hr. visual and interactive learning program will prepare nurses and other health professionals to: *Identify specific neurological, sensory, orthopedic, cardiac, respiratory, autoimmune, mental health, dental, and oncological health risks of children with Down syndrome, and describe appropriate nursing interventions related to these risks. *Cite the health care guidelines established by the National Down Syndrome Society for children with Down syndrome, and highlight nursing interventions to address these guidelines. *Identify specific recommendations for feeding and nutrition in youngsters with Down syndrome. *Discuss appropriate weight management strategies and physical activities for children with Down syndrome. *Describe developmental issues specific to children with Down syndrome, and identify beneficial therapies. *Outline services provided to children with Down syndrome through the early intervention program. *Identify supports available to children with Down syndrome through the public educational system and state services.
