Course overview

Immunology is a complicated subject, however, an understanding of the basic function of the immune system is useful in order to understand both how vaccines work and the basis of recommendations for their use. This CEU course discusses immunology and vaccine-preventable diseases; classification of vaccines; the need for strategies to increase immunization levels; the AFIX approach; recordkeeping; immunization information systems (IIS); recommendations to parents and reinforcement of the need to return; reminder and recall messages to patients; reduction of missed opportunities to vaccinate; and reduction to barriers to immunization within the practice.
