This course describes many aspects of how athletes get injured and how they heal. It defines common injuries by areas and how the healing process works. It also provides practical massage applications tied to the timing of athletic training and performance. When you finish this course you will be able to: •Understand how to use massage therapy in conjunction with the healing process for the inevitable injuries to athletes. •List the injuries that occur to muscles, tendons, synovial joints and bones, highlighting the most common ones for athletes. •Discuss injury classification and pertinent anatomy and physiology. •Define the stages of healing and their roles, including secondary problems that may occur. •List factors that may impede healing for different tissue-healing processes. •Describe the role of massage in sports timing and techniques to use during each phase of healing and for each type of sport and tissue.
