This course provides a picture of the unique demands of sports massage, particularly at events. It also provides detail on how to use a clinical approach for assessing a client’s condition in order to provide the best massage therapy plan for the athlete. When you complete this course you will be able to: •Understand how the varied working conditions and needs of athletes affect sports massage therapy approaches and delivery. •Understand the value of a clinical approach in determining each athlete’s plan. •Define the steps, goals, application, common injuries and focus for the three categories of event-focused sports massage therapy. •Describe the types of injuries and the forces that cause them for athletes. •Describe information gathering and testing with HOPRS for athletes. •Describe contraindications for massage therapy for athletes.
