Course overview

Counselor will: recall the stages of change model; identify situations that may warrant motivational interviewing; understand the role of healthy and destructive confrontation; acquire skills necessary to perform brief interventions; define the elements of a motivational intervention; learn strategies for opening a new session; describe several ways to integrate motivational interviewing in a treatment program.
