Course overview
Interprofessional teamwork is a contemporary approach to healthcare that assumes a working understanding of each team member¿s roles and areas of expertise within the working group. This case-based article reflects the perspectives of four professionals with expertise in providing medical and rehabilitative services to an older adult who has experienced a left CVA soon after having surgery for knee replacement. Readers can learn about the evaluation and intervention approaches and reasoning of a nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist, and consider how they work with one another, with other professional care providers, and with the patient and his family to provide excellent care during the rehabilitation process. By completing this module, readers will be better prepared to function interprofessionally in an adult rehabilitation context.
