Course overview
This course provides Texas laws and rules as they relate to the practice of nursing in the state of Texas. The content has been updated to include all new regulations. This course provides principles and best practices for delivering nursing care that meets or exceeds legal and ethical standards. Objectives: 1.List recent amendments to Texas State Laws and Rules affecting ethical and legal nursing standards. 2.Compare and contrast the roles of national nursing organizations and state nursing boards. 3.Explain the authority and responsibilities of the Texas Board of Nursing under state and federal law. 4.Explain how the Texas Nurse Practice Act defines and describes nursing practice. 5.Describe how Texas Board of Nursing rules, especially 217.11, regulate nursing practice. 6.Discuss the relevance of Texas Board of Nursing Position Statements as they pertain to nursing practice. 7.Discuss legal and ethical principles of nursing practice. 8.Discuss the relationship between nursing professional boundaries and appropriate nursing practice. 9.Locate Texas Board of Nursing and American Nursing Association resources for interpreting state and national ethical codes.
