Modern medicine provides opportunities to extend life, opportunities that did not exist even a few years ago. However, the decision concerning extreme life- saving measures rests with the individual patient. Often, those decisions are expressed in a document called an advance directive. This program explains what an advance directive is and describes the healthcare professional's role in implementing this expression of a patient's wishes.
