Course overview

The target audience for this education program is nurses who want to use scientific data and evidence as a best practice model for enhancing patient outcomes. Research and specifically nursing research provides the foundation for evidence-based practice. The findings of research may be used to help improve patient care and clinical outcomes. Organizations have a responsibility to establish a culture of learning that stimulates ongoing inquiry and translation of the best available evidence to clinical practice. It is imperative that healthcare organizations support EBP and nursing research by ensuring that nurses: have the time to devote to EBP and nursing research; have access to continuing education; and have opportunities to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for the provision of the best possible patient care. This course provides an overview of nursing research, the evaluation of evidence, and how to use and evaluate evidence in practice. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1.Define terms related to nursing research. 2.Explain how EBP models are used to implement EBP. 3.Explain important concepts of EBP and nursing research. 4.Describe an overview of the nursing research process. 5.Discuss how to translate evidence into practice.
