Between 75 million and 100 million individuals in the United States are estimated to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)and its potential morbidity extends beyond the liver. NAFLD affects up to a third of the population in developed countries. It is important that primary care physicians, endocrinologists, and other specialists be aware of the scope and long-term effects of the disease. NAFLD is associated with physical inactivity, obesity and metabolic syndrome. “In the past 10 years, the rate of obesity has doubled in adults and tripled in children”. (NIH, 2014). This program with focus on NAFLD and implementations of behavior modification and theory for patients diagnosed with NAFLD in order to prevent progression of the disease to NASH.
