urpose/Goals This module will discuss the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and treatment of three complications of diabetes mellitus: diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic neuropathies. Objectives When this module has been completed, the learner will be able to: Identify the basic pathologic process that causes diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic neuropathy. Identify risk factors that contribute to the development of diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic neuropathy. Identify the most important goal of treating diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic neuropathy. Identify specific treatments used for diabetic retinopathy. Identify specific treatments used for diabetic nephropathy. Identify medications used to treat pain caused by diabetic neuropathies.
