Clinical competence in nursing is crucial to providing safe and effective patient care. Various regulatory bodies have attempted to define clinical competence. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of clinical competence development, including information on the process of developing clinical competence in nursing, models developed to depict clinical competence development, and various approaches used to develop clinical competence. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
