This course is intended to provide the information necessary for a healthcare professional to be able to instruct a woman on the benefits and mechanics of breastfeeding. Objectives The purpose of this activity to enable the learner to: Discuss the benefits of breastfeeding Describe national, international and professional mandates to improve breastfeeding rates Describe potential barriers to breastfeeding Describe the physiology of lactation and contraindications to breastfeeding Identify what healthcare professionals can do to support breastfeeding Describe techniques for successful breastfeeding that are based upon current research
