Tracking # 20-555847
Course overview
This course is designed to present an overall view of dissociative identity disorder, formerly called Multiple Personality Disorder.¿ Most people have experienced some type of mild dissociation, such as daydreaming or losing themselves in a project.¿ However, Dissociative Identity Disorder is thought to stem from trauma experienced by the person with the disorder.¿ The dissociative aspect is thought to be a coping mechanism-the person literally dissociates himself from a situation or experience that¿s too violent, traumatic, or painful to assimilate with his conscious self. ¿This course will take you through the myths and misconceptions about DID, the causes and symptoms, and discusses possible therapeutic goals for individuals with DID.
