Neurological Emergencies Part 1

Course overview

In this course we will review the signs, symptoms and risk factors of patients presenting to the emergency department with a stroke or transient ischemic attack. We will also examine chief complaints, history and physical, neurological assessment, documentation guidelines and evidence-based treatments. After completing this course, nurses should be able to: identify the signs, symptoms and risk factors of patients presenting with an ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, central venous thrombosis or transient ischemic attacks; document and communicate a detailed history and physical, a neurological assessment that includes a stroke scale, and identify significant changes to improve patient safety and outcome; and discuss evidence-based treatment options for stroke and TIAs.
