Neurological Emergencies Part 2

Course overview

In this course we will review the signs, symptoms and risk factors of patients presenting to the emergency department with a neurological emergency. We will go over chief complaints, history and physical, neurological assessment, documentation guidelines and evidence-based treatments. This course is intended for the nurse working in an ED Setting. It can be used for orientation of nurses new to the ED environment or for any nurse who wants to increase their knowledge of acute neurological care. After completing this course, nurses should be able: identify the signs, symptoms and risk factors of patients presenting with a neurologic complaint; examine a detailed history and physical, a detailed neurological assessment, and significant changes to improve patient outcome, safety and quality of care; and examine evidence-based treatment options for neurological conditions.
