Evidence Based Dysphagia Evaluation - SOD

Course overview

Many speech pathologists do not use published dysphagia evaluations in their examination of a client for dysphagia and may not be assessing everything necessary to document the swallow problem. The first step in a thorough evaluation is the chart review and patient/family interview - what should that chart review tell you and why is that important? Various screens and assessment tools will be discussed that are currently available for use. The muscles/nerves involved in the swallow process will be reviewed and what tasks will provide information on their ROM/strength.
