Course overview
This continuing education is required for ALL ARNPs regardless of whether or not the ARNP will be seeking a DEA license. The course is NOT a requirement to obtain a DEA license and does NOT need to be completed prior to applying for a DEA. IT IS REQUIRED FOR RENEWING YOUR FLORIDA NURSING LICENSE and is required prior to the next renewal and then again for every subsequent renewal.. Course Summary: Many states are moving toward making changes to existing laws regulating the scope of practice for ARNPs to include independent prescribing authority. This "independent prescribing authority" refers to the ability to prescribe controlled medications without collaboration with a physician. This is a key component of ARNP scope of practice, and an important part of the APRN Concensus Model. Prescription of controlled substances represents significant risks, hence understanding these risks is critical in order to provide safe and effective patient care.
