Course overview

In the United States, at least two million people are infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria every year. At least 23,000 will die directly as a result of these infections. Antibiotic resistance is a significant public health threat, with evidence suggesting that the majority of deaths related to antibiotic resistance occur in inpatient healthcare settings. In addition to increased mortality, antibiotic resistance also leads to increased healthcare costs and prolonged hospital stays. Healthcare workers and leaders play a pivotal role in the prevention of antibiotic resistant infections, and in order to protect the lives of patients, it is essential that healthcare providers be educated regarding all aspects of antibiotic resistance.
