In the past decade, personal genetic information has become easily accessible, in large part due to the advancement of the consumer genetic testing industry. One class of genetic tests, called nutrigenetics or nutrigenomics, offered direct-to-consumer or through a healthcare provider, provides personalized dietary advice based on an individual's DNA. As the demand for genetic testing by consumers grows, an increased need exists for healthcare providers to have a better understanding of these tests. This course will help healthcare professionals understand what nutrigenomics testing is, how it is performed, how identifying genetic variation can guide individual nutrition recommendations, and how this new tool can be implemented into a sole or collaborative practice to provide clients and patients with individually tailored dietary and other lifestyle-related information based on their DNA.
