Audience: This pharmacology course is appropriate for advanced practice nurses and other practitioners responsible for managing patient drug therapy. Course overview: Almost every month there is a new drug approved for patient use. Keeping up with the new drugs and their possible impact on patient care and improvement is a full-time job. This practical course focuses on critical new drugs that are most likely to impact patient care. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to: •Distinguish new molecular entities from the universe of newly approved therapeutic products. •Describe breakthrough therapy designation. •Provide a requirement for orphan drug status. •Identify the benefits to a drug sponsor afforded a priority review. •Differentiate accelerated from typical FDA approval approaches. •Describe the purpose of the FDA fast track approval process. •Understand that newer drugs are not always better choices for all patients.
