Course overview

Drs. Laposata and Triscott will review monitoring methods for UFH and LMWH. Participants will also learn about a recent clinical study comparing Anti-Xa and aPTT monitoring of UFH. The study, performed in collaboration with MedAssets, Inc., covered a 5-year period and involved a large patient cohort diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome, ischemic stroke or primary venous thromboembolism, all monitored with either Anti-Xa or aPTT. Bleeding complications in the two groups will be compared and discussed. In addition, the clinical and economic value of Anti-Xa monitoring and a review of assays for Anti-Xa monitoring will be presented.
