Target Audience: The target audience for this education program is nurses who provide nursing care to patients with personality disorders and want to improve their nursing skills when working with such patients. Course Description: Personality disorders are characterized by maladaptive or dysfunctional personality traits. These traits affect those around the affected individual, including family, friends, and co-workers and are long-term in nature. People with personality disorders do not recognize their own problems are due to their disorders, but instead blame others as the source of their difficulties, Persons with personality disorders are challenging to treat. This education program provides descriptions of various personality disorders, how they are diagnosed, and treatment strategies. Objectives: Upon completion of this education program, the learner should be able to: 1. Describe the background and demographics of antisocial personality disorder. 2. Explain the diagnostic process for antisocial personality disorder. 3. Identify treatment interventions for antisocial personality disorder. 4. Discuss the background and demographics of borderline personality disorder. 5. Explain the diagnostic process for borderline personality disorder. 6. Describe treatment interventions for borderline personality disorder. 7. Discuss the background and demographics of narcissistic personality disorder 8. Describe the diagnostic process for narcissistic personality disorder. 9. Explain treatment interventions for narcissistic personality disorder.
