Home health care professionals often work with individuals experiencing anxiety that is an expected response to their environment as well as with individuals diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, so it is important to know how to recognize symptoms and treatment options. While similar to fear, anxiety is different in that it is focused on the anticipation of a threat at some point in the future and might be quite general in its nature. Sometimes, anxiety can become so disruptive to functioning that it becomes a disorder. Anxiety disorders are one of the most common categories of mental disorders experienced by individuals, with many effective treatment options available. This course will overview the common characteristics of anxiety disorders, risk factors, and the diagnosis and treatment of each disorder.
