Course overview

This course will focus on an overview of schizophrenia as a disorder as well as its causes and treatment. Schizophrenia affects a person’s perceptions of the world, interactions with others, and thinking. Individuals with schizophrenia lose touch with reality and therefore have significant challenges negotiating daily activities. Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder; with the right treatment and strong support, people can live fairly independently and lead satisfying lives. Individuals with schizophrenia may require additional support from home health care providers, so understanding symptoms and how someone with schizophrenia behaves is important to provide the highest level of care. This course will provide an overview of schizophrenia, including symptoms, onset, causes, and treatment.
