Course overview

Nursing professionals interact with a variety of individuals daily during their work, and it is critical to have a strength in communication. Often, the effects of aging, illness, and disabilities can create barriers to effective caregiver-patient communication, especially when patients lose some or all of their hearing. Paying attention to a patient’s communication needs is one of the most important duties of nursing professionals. This course will discuss the communication process, how hearing loss can be a barrier to communication, and how health care professionals can overcome those barriers.
