Handling Aggressive Residents and Patients with Dementia for Nursing Assistants

Course overview

When patients are upset, make demands, shout, uses foul language, or threaten others, they are exhibiting aggressive physical behavior. Aggressive behaviors are disruptive and can be harmful to medical professionals, family members, as well as other patients. Nursing assistants working in retirement homes, eldercare facilities, and hospitals are likely to interact with patients who exhibit aggressive behaviors at some point. This course will help to identify the causes behind aggression, the triggers that lead to acting out aggressively, and recognize how to interact with the patient to keep both the patient and others safe.
