Purpose of this Course The purpose of this course is to bring awareness to the challenges that face new graduate nurses and steps that can be taken as a profession to support them. Objectives To have understanding of the impacts nursing turnover has on new graduate nurses individually, professionally, and organizationally. To identify the common issues that face nursing and new graduate nurses today To identify strategies to offer support to new graduate nurses to increase job satisfaction, support and decrease turnover. The nursing profession is not for the weary. It is tough. The patients are sicker, there are more demands -making the job both physically and mentally exhausting. If we feel this way, think about the how the new nurses entering the workforce today are feeling. Nursing schools are limited in clinical experiences, relying on simulation based education to train the students. Schools are doing their best, but this does not prepare them completely for the higher stress and demands of the job. New graduate nurses, more than ever, need support as they transition into a practicing nurse. Together we are going to look at the issues that new graduate nurse’s face in the workforce, and find ways we can provide support to help them succeed in the profession they worked so hard to join.
