Environmental Safety The goal of this module is to review the principles of environmental safety and infection control for gastroenterology nurses. On completion of the module, the learner will be able to: Identify best practice and technique for infection control in the gastroenterology suite Understand the Spaulding classification system as it applies to the gastroenterology suite and the appropriate steps required for the decontamination and high-level disinfection of endoscopes Discuss relevant hazards that exist within the gastroenterology suite and what steps should be taken to minimize the potential dangers they can represent Explain the responsibilities of the gastroenterology nurse for the provision of a safe patient and staff environment in the gastroenterology suite
