IMPROVING INTELLIGIBILITY IN APRAXIA AND DYSARTHRIA

Course overview

This seminar presents material on the process of improving intelligibility in children with severe apraxia and dysarthria, and other causes of severe expressive speech disorder. Pam Marshalla discusses practical ways to facilitate intelligibility through the development of a vowels, diphthongs, prosody, oral-nasal resonance, consonants, and phonological processes common in children with motor speech disorders. Lecture and small group activities will be used during this very practical presentation. Material bases on the Evidence-Based Practice philosophy. Objective Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Use techniques to facilitate vowels and diphthongs. Discover methods to encourage development of syllables and syllable sequences. Discuss methods to facilitate improved prosody for improved intelligibility.
