Course overview

All health care employees will better understand the importance and process of communication in the health care setting after taking this course. Content is aimed at refreshing existing knowledge and developing a deeper understanding of communication skills. Health care employees will examine elements of effective communication between themselves and patients or coworkers, focusing on methods that can be incorporated into any health care setting. Topics include barriers to communication including internal variables, cultural differences, and physical and mental disabilities. The learner will review techniques for active listening, reducing conflict in interpersonal communication, and tactics for improving teamwork communication.
