All staff working in the long term care setting will increase their knowledge and skills in caring for persons diagnosed with dementia or a related disorder. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: 1- Explain the normal aging process of the brain. 2 - Describe Alzheimer’s disease (AD), how the brain works, and how it is affected by AD. 3 - Discuss how memory loss from Alzheimer’s disease and other related disorders differs from normal aging. 4 - List neurological diseases or conditions that can cause irreversible or reversible dementia and other conditions or disorders that may result in similar symptoms. 5 - Summarize how Alzheimer’s disease is diagnosed.
