Stalking: Recognizing and Responding

Course overview

Stalking is a crime that is far more prevalent than most people realize. Stalking is one of the most pervasive and serious public health issues facing the United States today. The results of one study examining the prevalence of stalking revealed that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 19 men in the United States have experienced stalking victimization at some point during their lifetime in which they felt very fearful or believed that they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed. This course is designed to enhance your understanding of stalking by reviewing key findings from research on stalking, identifying common tactics used by stalkers, and exploring the intersections between stalking, intimate partner violence, and sexual violence. This course will also examine common reactions experienced by victims/survivors of stalking and discuss ways to assist victims/survivors of stalking in clinical practice.
