Course overview

Target Audience: The target audience for this education program is nurses who want to increase their knowledge of, and their ability to provide care for, patients and families dealing with end-of-life issues. Course Overview: The principles of end-of-life care focus on providing the best possible care and emotional support for patients and families with compassion and a respect for the dignity of the patient. This course provides nurses with information regarding standards and competencies of palliative nursing practice, body changes as death nears, physical comfort measures at the end of life, factors relating to advance directives, and cultural considerations when providing end-of-life care. Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the learner should be able to: 1. Discuss the standards and competencies of palliative nursing practice. 2. Describe body changes as death nears. 3. Identify comfort measures and nursing interventions for end-of-life care. 4. Identify important factors relating to advance directives. 5. Discuss cultural considerations at end-of-life care.
