Statement of Learning Need

Antibiotic, anticoagulant and pain management are commonly used medication strategies for patients who undergo bone and joint surgery. Multiple research studies have been conducted to determine the best course of care to prevent infection, blood clot formation and for optimal pain management. Additional studies are needed, however the general standards for medical care during the pre-, intra- and post-operative phases of patient care that include drug selection, dosing, and safe use guide clinical outcomes, which clinicians are required to know and follow.

Course Purpose 

To provide health clinicians with knowledge of pharmacology regimes for bone and joint surgery. 

Target Audience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and other Interdisciplinary Health Team Members.
