Social Anxiety Disorder in Youth

Course overview

Investigating social anxiety and its subtypes over early childhood along with the relationship between early social worries and later anxiety disorders can help improve assessment, treatment, and outcomes. The purpose of this intermediate level continuing education course, developed using information from The Journal of Anxiety Disorders, is to explore studies that examined subtypes of Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) in youth and consider the validity and efficacy of the Social Worries Anxiety Index for Young children (SWAIY). An overview of social anxiety in children is presented as well as research efforts, study methods, a discussion of results, conclusions, and future implications.
