Male fertility is declining rapidly, and now accounts for 40% of couple’s infertility. These men are notably absent from the treatment room. They are frequently told their sperm is ‘fine’ or ‘normal’, and confuse sperm quality with virility. As practitioners treating female infertility, we are effectively working with one hand behind our back. There is increasing clinical evidence showing the efficacy of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in improving semen profiles. Treating male factor infertility will significantly improve a couple’s chance of a successful pregnancy.
