Course overview
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to: RX/NP Objectives 1. Discuss the epidemiology and contributing factors for the development of psoriasis. 2.Describe psoriasis symptoms and how body surface area and the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) are used in assessing psoriasis severity. 3. List commonly used topical treatments. Counsel patients regarding administration, side effects, and precautions. 4.Compare and contrast systemic treatments used for psoriasis, including effectiveness, side effects, and precautions. Tech Objectives: 1.Describe 5 drug classes that are indicated for the topical treatment of psoriasis. State how they are usually administered and a common side effect of each. 2.For each systemic medication that is used to treat psoriasis, list common side effects, 1 precaution or warning, and the usual adult dose. 3.For topical and systemic medications used for the treatment of psoriasis, list the generic and brand names.
