Course overview

This continuing education course provides physical therapy and occupational therapy professionals with a thorough overview of the factors involved with managing older patients who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA). The course begins with the definitions, pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, and differential diagnosis of osteoarthritis. It includes diagnostic testing and OA’s effects on function. Evaluation of the older patient with arthritis is reviewed, and a variety of medical interventions and PT/OT treatment options for these patients are discussed, all aimed at maximizing the patient’s functional outcomes. Therapist Tips and a case study help focus the clinician’s application of the material. This course will be immediately useful in clinical practice for PTs, PTAs, OTs, and OTAs who work with older adults.
