The goal of this article is to evaluate the indications, choices and considerations in clinical management of patients in high-risk subgroups and issues that may be faced by clinicians prescribing long term anticoagulants Objectives Identify two new oral anticoagulants Describe the role of direct FXa inhibitors in anticoagulation therapy Discuss the choices of direct thrombin inhibitors in anticoagulation therapy Describe the pharmacology of NOACs when compared with Warfarin Discuss the clinical considerations applied in the management of new oral anticoagulants
